Just watched the movie. Wasnt bad at all. 04/17/2020 - This was a pretty decent drugs/killers/victims action/suspense movie. Overall it was moderately tense at times but never scary. It will definitely hold the viewer. Suggestion: Try to overlook some of the unrealistic things that you"ll notice as you watch. This is a fatal and gory French film. The story of the film revolves around the life of a sawmill owner and hid an adolescent daughter. The two got to know that their property holds drugs from some dealer. And then the story turns towards the fight for survival. The Plot of ‘Earth and Blood’- The movie starts with some crooks assaulting police headquarters. The crooks are raged because their drugs were seized. The drugs king Adama is not at peace because police held his drugs. He drags himself to a place where Yanis works. That place is a sawmill where a man named, Said lives with his adolescent daughter. The girl needs a listening device and talks in gesture-based communication. Adama enters the mill with his enormous sized goons. Now the lead Said need to safeguard his daughter and himself until the police do not show up. The movie is quite tolerable. The scenes are sometimes soothing too. We can see fog rolling in over the mountains and related scenes. Brecht Goyvaert’s photography proved to be quite compelling for the setting. Well, the story of the movie moves forward slowly. It seems as if the direction and acting both keeps the story stuck at halts. A film like Earth And Blood requires enough time to stretch the story. For instance, until the first 40 mins, Adama has not entered the Said’s mill. So it is evident that the first half of the movie stretched slowly. While the other half consisted of a lot of events and activities to fathom. The other half moved too fast and had too much to watch. There’s a lot of time wasted depicting Said’s money related and health problems. It is quite evident that the movie started with huge expectations and ability, but eventually lost the potential. The movie seems like misuse of characters and cash. The subjects of the movie could have taken more relatable and intelligent steps in the movie. Conclusion- Overall the depiction makes Earth and Blood a complete dismal movie. The characters of the movie were shown with so much stupid decision-making skills. Eventually, the characters were not much likeable. After some point, the movie seemed to be quite guessable.

In the past month alone, we"ve had The Platform, The Decline, Uncorked, Tigertail and The Occupant to name but a few, with Chris Hemsworth"s Extraction coming to Netflix next week. And out of the four Netflix original movies added this week (including Sergio, starring Ana de Armas), gripping French thriller Earth and Blood is the one you should be watching. Caroline Lessire Netflix Fitting of its lean 80-minute runtime, the set-up of Earth and Blood is simple as it starts with a gang stealing drugs from a police station. One of the gang members forces his half-brother Yanis (Samy Seghir) to hide the drugs at the sawmill he works at, but crime boss Adama (Eriq Ebouaney) isn"t impressed by that so he heads to the factory with his gang. When owner Saïd (Sami Bouajila) realises what Yanis has done, it"s left to him to protect his daughter Sarah (Sofia Lesaffre) by any means possible, turning his sawmill into a battleground that he knows better than anyone else. But as the casualties begin to pile up, can Saïd stay alive long enough for any help to arrive? While it might seem as though Earth and Blood takes its time to get to the gang arriving at Saïd"s factory, the opening 30 minutes serves to make the extended assault of the second half more effective. We see Saïd going about his business as he prepares to sell up to help his daughter, meaning we cover every aspect of the sawmill and the surrounding area. It means that come his one-man stand against the gang, we are always fully aware of the surroundings, adding tension when we know he"s backing himself into a corner. And the assault when it comes is superb, with Saïd using every aspect of the sawmill against the gang. So if you think Earth and Blood is going to show you all those saws without Saïd using them, think again. It"s Chekhov"s Saw. It"s brutal, relentless and tense action that cuts between Saïd at the sawmill and Sarah trying to escape with Yanis. True, the gang members don"t seem to be the sharpest tools in the box, but the heroes are equally ill-prepared to deal with the situation. We"re about to discuss a key moment in the ending, so look away now if you haven"t seen it yet and are avoiding spoilers. Go and watch Earth and Blood on Netflix and then come back to us. Earth and Blood isn"t complex, so you will be able to work out where it"s going from the moment Adama attacks the sawmill. Saïd manages to kill all of Adama"s goons in various creative ways, before it"s just the two of them left. Adama appears to fatally wound Saïd and goes off to kill Sarah in retaliation for Saïd killing his brother Moussa. That"d be a depressing note to end on though, so just as Adama is about to break Sarah"s neck (all in slow-motion in a very Terminator fashion), Saïd appears in the nick of time to kill Adama with an axe. A helicopter – likely the police who were called earlier – arrives as Sarah hugs her father, but is Saïd dead? We don"t get a concrete confirmation as the credits kick in before the helicopter arrives. He certainly seemed like a goner after Adama shot him and as we learnt at the start of the movie, he"s got terminal cancer. So it seems like a bad combination and he likely has succumbed to his wounds. Sorry about that. However, if we want to put a happy spin on it, there"s nothing to say you can"t believe that Saïd manages to get saved by the police and lives on. But Adama’s “bad guys” soon find the trail of “their” drugs and burst in, armed to the teeth and in large numbers, to retrieve them… The intertwining of the viril universes of lumberjacks and thugs was already explored in a different manner in Robert Enrico’s The Wise Guys (1965), but it remains a very good cinematic idea which Julien Leclercq efficiently explores in terms of realism, visual mood (with cinematography by Brecht Goyvaerts, who worked on the TV series Zone blanche) and the many possibilities offered by the setting to feed into the explosive character of the story (a game of hide and seek where life is at stake, chases through the woods, shootouts, a fire, an alarm, the various — and sharp — machines of the sawmill, etc. ). Outshines American movies by miles. I hate when characters make stupid decisions. Sometimes they are forgivable. But here is just one after the other, like leaving your deaf daughter alone when you know some drug traffickers may be coming to the place where you left her. Or sending home workers, practically an army, who could help you protect yourself and not calling the police. If he wasn"t going to call the police why not give the drug back, why go to town to call the police only to return when he saw the bad guys, and call the police ON THE PHONE. The only one with half a brain was the drug dealer, and he is a criminal. The rest of the characters are stupid or helpless.
But apart from the script you have the awful action scenes, where you don"t know who is hunting who, there is no sense of geography to the scene, you don"t know what anyone is doing.
And for some reason the guy has cancer and is going to die soon, but does not affect the story at all, well he then goes to sell his property, but that does not go anywhere.
